Cecil Gowing Infant School continues to be a good school where pupils thrive and are happy. They are courteous, enthusiastic, and treat one another with kindness and respect. Staff maintain high expectations, resulting in exceptional behaviour both in and outside the classroom. Bullying is not a concern, and pupils feel safe and supported by trusted adults within the school community.
The school offers weekly outdoor learning opportunities, encouraging imagination through activities like weather experiments, role play, and mud kitchens. Snack time is used creatively to support learning, such as practicing counting skills to ‘buy’ fruit.
Staff know the pupils very well as individuals and carefully track their progress. They ensure that most pupils make strong progress; they act swiftly to support any who are at risk of falling behind. Much has been done to tackle areas to improve raised at the previous inspection. Subject leaders are more involved in monitoring the quality of the provision. Some, such as the leader for early years and the leader for outdoor learning, are an inspiration to their colleagues.
What the School Does Well:
- High-Quality Curriculum: The curriculum is well-planned and sequenced, especially in early years, with teachers leveraging every moment for learning.
- Strong Assessment Practices: Staff identify and address gaps in knowledge effectively, helping pupils achieve well.
- SEND Support: Provision for pupils with special educational needs is thoughtfully planned, ensuring equal access to the curriculum.
- Broader Development: Pupils enjoy a range of activities beyond the classroom, including outdoor learning, community visits, and exposure to diverse cultures and professions.
- Strong Leadership: Leaders and governors create a nurturing environment for both pupils and staff, ensuring workload is manageable and safety is prioritised.
Safeguarding:
Safeguarding arrangements are robust. Staff are well-trained to identify risks and take appropriate action. Pupils know they can turn to trusted adults for support, and governors are strengthening their oversight to ensure the school remains a safe and supportive environment.
Cecil Gowing Infant School is a vibrant community where children are encouraged to grow, learn, and feel valued. Parents overwhelmingly agree their children are happy, safe, and thriving.
