SEND

At Cecil Gowing Infant School, we are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive. Our approach to supporting children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is rooted in careful planning, effective communication, and personalised support. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their individual needs or abilities.

During our most recent OFSTED inspection in June 2023, the inspector noted: “Provision for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is carefully planned. Leaders communicate with nurseries and parents and carers early in the transition process to ensure that children’s needs are identified. Specific transition arrangements are in place for individual children. Adaptations to the curriculum and/or additional adult support is provided if needed. The expectations of pupils with SEND are the same as other pupils, and all pupils follow the same curriculum.”

At Cecil Gowing Infant School, we take pride in our proactive approach to supporting pupils with SEND. Our commitment to inclusive education ensures that every child receives the necessary support and resources to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Through collaboration with parents, carers, and external agencies, we tailor our provision to meet the unique needs of each individual child, fostering a culture of equality and empowerment.

Additionally, we have established a dedicated nurture and sensory space called ‘The Woodland Room’. This tranquil room provides a calming environment where children with sensory needs can relax, recharge, and engage in activities designed to stimulate their senses. Equipped with sensory materials, comfortable seating, and soft lighting, The Woodland Room offers a safe haven for children to regulate their emotions and enhance their well-being. Through targeted interventions and sensory experiences, we aim to support the holistic development of our children and promote positive outcomes in their learning journey.

Our values of kindness, resilience, and creativity underpin our approach to supporting pupils with SEND. We believe in fostering a culture of empathy and compassion, where every child feels valued and included. Through nurturing resilience, we empower our children to overcome challenges and embrace their unique strengths. Furthermore, we encourage creativity and innovation, providing opportunities for self-expression and exploration. By embedding these values into our SEND provision, we create a nurturing environment where every child can flourish and succeed.
