British Values

At Cecil Gowing Infant School, we believe every child has the potential for greatness. Our school motto, “Where Greatness Grows,” reflects our deep commitment to nurturing each child’s individuality, potential, and sense of belonging. We aim to provide a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment where children are encouraged to grow—not just academically, but socially, emotionally, and morally.

Our school values of Kindness, Resilience and Creativity are woven through every aspect of school life. These values guide how we treat one another, how we approach challenges, and how we express ourselves as learners and citizens. They also provide a strong foundation for the teaching and promotion of British Values, which we see as essential for preparing children to be thoughtful, active members of modern Britain.

By embedding the principles of Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs across our curriculum and wider school experience, we support children to:

  • Understand the world around them
  • Develop a strong moral compass
  • Learn to respect and value others
  • Make confident, informed choices
  • Contribute positively to their community

British Values are not taught in isolation, they are lived and experienced through everything we do, from RSHE Life Lessons and daily routines, to assemblies, class discussions, school trips, and special celebrations. Our goal is to help every child leave Cecil Gowing with the confidence, compassion, and curiosity to thrive in a diverse and ever-changing world.

The impact of our British Values policy is visible in the way our children:

  • Show kindness and respect to one another, regardless of differences.
  • Are resilient learners who understand their responsibilities and rights.
  • Use creative thinking to solve problems, make decisions, and reflect on their learning.
  • Engage confidently in discussions, understand fairness, and listen to different viewpoints.
  • Celebrate diversity and show interest in the world around them.

Through consistent and age-appropriate promotion of British Values, our pupils leave Cecil Gowing Infant School with a strong moral foundation, a respect for others, and a growing sense of their place in society.
