Our School Day

We understand that starting Infant School is a huge milestone for both children and their families. It is often the first step in a child’s school journey, and we know that this can bring a mixture of excitement and nerves. At Cecil Gowing, our caring and experienced staff team work hard to ensure that every child feels safe, happy and valued from the very beginning.

Through warm relationships, consistent routines and a nurturing approach, we take the time to get to know each child as an individual, helping them to build confidence, independence and a love of learning. Our staff are always on hand to offer reassurance, encouragement and support, ensuring that children quickly feel part of our school family and are able to flourish both socially and academically.

Coming into School

The school day begins at 8:40am, when children are warmly welcomed by their teacher and invited into their classroom. As they settle into the day, children complete a range of morning jobs and routines, helping them to develop independence, responsibility and readiness for learning. This calm and purposeful start ensures that every child feels settled, confident and prepared for the exciting day ahead.

Break time

Morning break takes place at 10:30am. Before heading outside, children are provided with a healthy snack to help keep them energised and ready for the day ahead. They then have the opportunity to enjoy our fantastic outdoor spaces, exploring the playground’s exciting features including the slide, tunnel area and maze. Breaktimes are a valuable part of the day, encouraging physical activity, imaginative play and opportunities to build friendships.

Lunch time

Lunch is served at 12:00pm, and children can choose to bring a packed lunch from home or enjoy either a freshly prepared hot school meal or a school-packed lunch. Mealtimes provide an opportunity for children to relax, socialise with friends and develop their independence. Once lunch has finished, children can make the most of our extensive outdoor environment, enjoying play, exploration and fresh air before returning to their afternoon learning.

Home time

After a busy and exciting day of learning, exploring and playing, it’s time to collect coats and book bags and reflect on the day’s achievements. The school day finishes at 3:10pm, and children are collected from outside their classroom by a parent or carer. Our staff are always on hand at the end of the day to ensure a safe, smooth and happy handover.
